LYRICS

Zoom out got a new perspective
I’m chillin’ out with a cooler beverage
Been thinkin’ about how good it sounds
That even though we have our struggles
The time we have to tuck and rumble
Is only ours, is only ours

Spent all day in a daze
I woke up 9AM today I’m about to get paid
7-11 across the Way
Rocking’ with my big shades on
You know I’ve got my game on
I realize you might not get to reach yourself
Or the confidence at all
And now I have to fall
And take care of it all

Zoom out got a new perspective
I’m chilling’ out with a cooler beverage
Been thinking about how good it sounds
That even though we have our struggles
The time we have to tuck and rumble
It’s only ours, it’s only ours

When you were gone I had the ganj
Green from dusk ‘til dawn
Dreaming about the day you’d come
And run into my arms
Then that day came around
I was expecting flutes and horns
But neither of us had heard
The quiet before the storm
I realize you might not get to reach yourself
Or the confidence at all
And now I have to fall
And take care of it all

Zoom out got a new perspective
I’m chilling’ out with a cooler beverage
Been thinking’ about how good it sounds
That even though we have our struggles
The time we have to tuck and rumble
It’s only ours, it’s only ours

To make the most the things we love
And chase the one she brings the feeling of
A god above
I realize it takes an eye of gold
To point out what I find out
Yesterday, oh yesterday

STORY

New Perspective is a straightforward pop song that uses one of the most popular chord progressions in music. I wrote this using an acoustic guitar strumming chords that I think anyone could do after a few guitar lessons. The melody of this tune is what makes this one fun for me, it’s simple, sweet and fun to sing. The words and melody came almost immediately after I wrote the chords and I turned to my friend Luis Chavez for some help on finalizing the verse words and melodies.

This song often draws a comparison to Jason Mraz, I think I’m alright with that because I like his sunny optimism and I like writing summery songs that make you feel good. My friend Jasper Burik features as the keyboard soloist on this tune, you’ll hear him ripping the Rhodes piano around the 2:30 mark. The first song of “Easy” was wrapped up with Alex Rushka on bass and mixing work from Michael Cupp.

This song took me FOREVER to finalize. I originally wrote it in the winter of 2014, when I was a sophomore in college. I’ve felt attached to this song for a while because I felt like it was one of the first “catchy” songs I created. Not all musicians would agree, but I feel there is sometimes pressure to write something really catchy. I felt accomplished when I wrote this song because it sounded like pop and the chorus got stuck in my head. I think this song almost served as a method of me proving to myself that I could write a song that sounds commercially acceptable.

My focus now is to follow my creative instincts and intuition —I just want to sound like me! I love soul, R&B, hip-hop, and dance music, so I want to make music for people that appreciate those feelings.
