LYRICS

Did I hear that right?

Your parents really kicked you out last night

My god what a night

Best believe we gonna win the fight

Yeah you know I’m with you

And I see the shit

That they go and do

And you know I see myself with you too

And I can be the one

I can be the I can be the one

Who’s making it right

Even if they take

Even if they take it all away

And I know that they’ll try

By the look in their eyes

Making it so fine

Under the city lights

When you’re in love

The feeling is so fine

It’s hard to see without the vision (view)

So rest assured we’ll share something simple

Love ain’t gotta be so stressful

(Love ain’t gotta be so stressful)

I don’t think they’ll be respectful

(They ain’t never like me anyways)

So what else can I do?

(I’ma keep on loving you)

And I can be the one

I can be the I can be the one

Who’s making it right

Even if they take

Even if they take it all away

And I know that they’ll try

By the look in their eyes

Making it so fine

Under the city lights

When you’re in love

The feeling is so fine

STORY

I went through a rough breakup in 2018. The hardest part of it is that it wasn’t even my ex’s fault we broke up.

It was her family’s. The family didn’t exactly approve of me over some differences in our beliefs. It all started

with an incredibly rigid lunch where I met her older brother and father to discuss some we’ll say,

disagreements with our sleeping arrangements. Shortly after that unproductive lunch, my ex was kicked out of

her house by her parents and all but ex-communicated from her family. We still had some happy times

while this great stress hung a cloud over our relationship, so you might notice a sense of conflict between the

verses and chorus on this track Parental Approval. While I admire that some couples carry on after facing

difficulties from parents, I think it was made all but impossible for us to continue our relationship. Next time,

I’d like to actually get along with my significant other’s parents.

VIDEOS

I couldn’t call myself a Pacific Northwest (PNW) musician if I didn’t have a plethora of videos set in a forest.

The majority of the EP was recorded right in my bedroom and a lot of the time I was playing producer, engineer

and musician all at once. When I was lucky enough to collaborate, it was with awesome musicians like Alex

Rushka, who you’ll hearing playing bass throughout the entirety of the EP. Alex is a stylistically diverse bass

player and knows how to add depth to a track without overplaying. Check him in action below!

HONORABLE MENTION SONGS

Here’s a live snippet of a song that didn’t make the cut for the EP called “Set it Off.” Again I’m sticking with the

outdoorsy live performance theme. Honestly, the reason this song didn’t make the cut was because I felt it

was too similar to the artist that inspired it, D’Angelo. I heard D’Angelo in 2016 and was floored by his

amazing sense of harmony, off-kilter grooves and killer falsetto.
